1. Different insulation materials
The insulating material used in N2XY cable is cross-linked polyethylene, while NYY cable is made of polyvinyl chloride. In comparison between the two, cross-linked polyethylene insulation has stronger high temperature resistance, is more environmentally friendly, and has better performance than ordinary PVC.
2. Different working temperature
Conventional N2XY cable allows the maximum operating temperature of 90°C, and the maximum temperature does not exceed 250°C when short-circuited (within 5 seconds); conventional NYY cables allow the maximum operating temperature to be around 65°C, and the maximum temperature does not exceed 160°C when short-circuited (within 5 seconds) . The difference in maximum operating temperature determines that N2XY has a higher current carrying capacity, and also determines that N2XY cable is better than NYY cable in terms of overall performance.
3. Different working voltage range
Normally, the working voltage range of N2XY cable is 6～500KV, while NYY cable is 1～6KV. Therefore, NYY cables are generally used in low-voltage environments, while N2XY covers high, medium and low-voltage environments. This is why the N2XY cable manufacturing process requires higher levels.
4. Price and longevity
With the same specifications and models, the price of N2XY cable is slightly more expensive than that of NYY, which may be the reason why NYY cable is still alive.
